Hi, Loren here, founder of Hockey-101.
I am a full-time level 2 hockey coach with experience in teaching physical education in both Primary and Secondary schools. I have coached a range of ages & abilities over the last 14 years.
The first team I coached was back in 2006. It was an U16 girls high school team, on grass! Doesn’t that take you back. As a player I had to work incredibly hard at improving my skill delivery and game sense. Hockey was one sport that didn’t come easy to me. My dedication to improving my own game soon shifted into a desire to helping others improve theirs.
My coaching career began with the desire to teach players how to get the best out of their performances, whether that’s through improving skill execution or game sense. It’s highly rewarding to witness players try new skills, fail, and try again until it works. This resilience helps them break through mental barriers such as self-confidence and deliver game changing performances.
My Coaching highlights includes:
Delivered 1-2-1 sessions for players with specific individual goals; U12 & U14 boys and girls head coach at Letchworth Hockey Club, UK; introduced a mixed junior development academy at Letchworth Hockey Club for players between the ages of 13-18 who were transitioning from 7 a-side to full pitch hockey – these sessions provided players pushing for county and/or regional representation with the training intensity and skills required for achieving their goals; ran junior development and high performance holiday clinics twice a year over a 4 year period and held the head coach position at Stevenage Hockey Club, UK, coaching the Ladies 1s & 2s squad, Men’s 1s & 2s squad and all club goal keepers.
In addition, I have had the privilege of coaching and managing U13-U18 boys and girls at County and Regional levels in the England Hockey Player Pathway System. Being exposed to this range of abilities and levels have helped me mentor young players aspiring to reach success in the pathway system.
Enough of the past – let’s talk things more current!
After spending over 11 years in UK, I made the permanent move to Adelaide in September 2019. Over the past 6 months I have joined the coaching team at Hockey SA, delivering lessons in Primary Schools through the Sporting Schools Program, as well as coaching in their JDP and DAP state programs. Since January 2020, I joined the coaching team for the Hockey Academy at Henley High School. Port Adelaide District Hockey Club is not only my club of choice as a player but as a coach I look forward to collaborating with PADHC with the Primary School Program – introduction to hockey lessons, whilst contributing to the development of the club’s junior program.
In January 2020, Hockey-101 was founded with one thing in mind – to help players of all levels reach their full potential and elevate their game, not only through practical skill but also through mindset. I hope to guide, inspire and empower players to recognise their worth and push beyond their boundaries. Beginner or advanced, there is always something we can improve on.
How far are you willing to go to be better than you are today?
